You can’t call it work when it’s this much fun.

Zombie Busters is the working title only.

Category: Projects

It’s been five months so it’s obviously way past time to give you my follow up on the Guadalajara film project.  Here’s the unofficial official details…  I’m going to be directing a film in Mexico, a horror.  The working title is “Zombie Busters” but trust me, it’s not a comedy, it is going to be much scarier than the title lets on.  We are setting the bar high, yes, even with a name like this.  We’re aiming to make the scariest and best zombie movie that’s ever been made in Mexico.  We’re going for a landmark film.  Right now the script is still in development, but we have a solid outline and early draft, and it’s only getting better with time.  I am EXTREMELY pleased with how the writing process has come along and I can thank Joseph Cahill and Teresa Aguilera, our diligent writers for that.  The film is being produced by Guadalajara producer Oswaldo Martinez.  It’s been great collaborating with him and I’m excited to see the product of our hard work.

Okay, enough schmoozing.  If you want to know more about the project or want to get involved, send me a message.

Where the brakes are on a bike.

Category: Quotes

I was working on this very intense project with a small group last week and I realized we kept backtracking. It’s very frustrating to cover ground and then have to do it over again because someone else didn’t do their part of the job thoroughly enough. At least thinking about all of this lead to a quote. I told the guy who was botching things up…

“You have your brakes on the handlebars and that’s no good.”

I’m sure he’ll never get it, but see, if you have your brakes on your pedals you can’t back peddle, but when the brakes are on the handlebars, you can back peddle all day long.

One week after Guadalajara

Category: Projects, Travel

Wow. So Guadalajara was awesome. I can thank Hollywood for what I expected going into Mexico. What I saw was an eye opener. Guadalajara is actually one of Mexico’s largest and prosperous cities. It is home to millions of people, filled with many races, cultures, and there are many exciting happenings to experience. We rode bikes to a park filled with trampolines, went to the Guadalajara Arts Festival, and even spent a night watching Lucha Libre.

My meeting with the producers went well. A spit-in-the-hand-shake kind of deal. I am to direct a feature film, with a seven figure budget. The film will be in Spanish which will be a challenge since I know very little of the language. I will have a translator. We’re making a horror film which should be one of the safest genres to direct since “fear” is a basic and universal instinct; one that involves very little dialogue past screams and guttural moans. The writers and I are already in full brainstorm mode. So far we’ve come up with a wide spectrum of ideas. I can’t wait to see what we decide on.

Side note and warning to all. While I didn’t drink the water or eat the fruits or vegetables, I did somehow manage to catch a stomach bug that has lasted over a week. I’ve been to the doctor three times now and am waiting to find out which one of the many nasty bugs I have. My advice to travelers, read up on this stuff (cdc.gov) before you travel unless you have a television in your bathroom with surround sound.

Hello Guadalajara

Category: Travel

This is my first post since I accidently erased my old blog. So I’m sitting at an airport that actually has FREE wireless internet access, something becoming more and more rarer these days at airports. I am waiting to board a plane to Guadalajara. I’ve never been to Mexico on my own, so this should be interesting. I’m going down to meet my writer friend Joseph Cahill, his co-writer Teresa, and a producer that is interested in funding a feature film that I will direct. If this trip seals the deal, it will be my biggest budgeted project to date and my first foreign soil project. I love collaborating with people from all over but I had really imagined my first international project being in Moscow. Maybe this is a first step in that direction, it’s funny how connections are made sometimes. Okay, it’s boarding time so I have to pack it up; we’ll see how the locals treat a guy who doesn’t know a lick of Spanish other than Schwarzenegger quotes and menu items at Taco Bell. Asta LaVista.

Happy Birthday Tomoko!

I prefer February over Heavenly and definitely either over Green. I’m sure Feb will never return so I can only hope that we can all enjoy more Heaven. If you’re not following me on any of this then you need to do some serious research because you’re definitely missing out on a good mix of fun and serious music. There is much gorgeousness in loneliness. While this song is fantastic, the video is really lacking. As bad as it is though, for some reason I still like it very much just how it is. I even came up with a character to meet her character named BobbyJanuary9th. I guess I can only dream.
